Dhaka: Adab means excellent customs, good methods, etc. Starting from worship and devotion, to all the activities of personal, social and state life, transactions, sociality, behavior and purification of mind and soul, etc., the name of the customs and principles that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself adopted and asked the Ummah to follow is Adab.

The place of etiquette (regardless of any category) in Islam is much higher. These are not like any useless or extra things; rather, they are included in the basic purpose of all the rules and regulations of Islam.

The etiquettes related to worship should be followed with care because, especially, the virtues, blessings and results of every act of worship will be obtained properly only when it is performed with care and attention to all the etiquettes of that act of worship.

A believer's attitude towards the etiquettes of Islam must be positive. So that one has the good fortune to adopt it and attain the benefits of worship. For this purpose, some discussion has been made about the manners of fasting -

In order to obtain the virtues, blessings and rewards promised by Allah Almighty regarding fasting and to achieve the desired goal, namely self-purification, patience, piety and fear of God, it is not enough to just give up food, drink and sexual intercourse because, these are the body structure of fasting. And its soul is - manners. Therefore, if one is not careful about the manners of fasting, the virtues and blessings of fasting will not be attained.

The manners of fasting are -

1- Guarding the eyes from all kinds of sins. For example, refraining from looking at strange women, watching TV and movies.

2- Guarding the tongue. That is, staying away from lies, backbiting, obscene talk and quarreling. It is stated in the Hadith Sharif, ‘Whoever does not give up lying and evil deeds while fasting, his giving up food and drink is of no importance to Allah. Allah does not care about his giving up food and drink.’ -Sahih Bukhari: 1903

In another Hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘None of you should speak obscene or bad words while fasting. Let him not engage in any kind of noise or commotion. If someone else abuses or beats him, he should only inform him (without abusing him in return for such behavior or abuse) that he is fasting.' - Sahih Bukhari: 1904

This shows that beating and quarreling while fasting, and even making noise, are against the etiquette of fasting. Therefore, keep your tongue free from these and always keep it fresh through dhikr-azkar and recitation of the Quran. Even if you are silent, you will be saved from losing the blessings of fasting.

3. Protecting the ears from all kinds of sins. For example, staying away from listening to music, backbiting, slander and obscene talk.

4. In addition, preventing other organs such as hands and feet from sins and bad deeds.

5- Avoiding forbidden food during Sahih and Iftar. Imam Ghazali (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “Whoever fasts the whole day and breaks his fast with unlawful wealth, it is as if he has built a building and destroyed a city.”

6- During fasting, remember the greatness and greatness of Allah and His commands and decrees more. The fasting person should keep this thought in his heart that Allah is present and present. I have given up food and drink by His command and to achieve His pleasure. I have to be hungry and thirsty to please Him.

If it is possible to fast for a month in this way, Allah will grant us the invaluable wealth of piety and self-control, through which the door of immense goodness in this world and the Hereafter will be opened.
