BUET campus was in turmoil late at night over the escape of BUET student Abrar Fahad's killer and death row convict Jamie from prison. BUET students have erupted in protests demanding the arrest and hanging of the killer Jamie.

On Monday (February 24), students took out a procession from BUET's Shahid Minar at 11:30 pm. The procession passed through Palashi intersection, VC's quarters and met at the foot of the Raju Sculpture of Dhaka University. Later, BUET students held a press conference there.

At that time, students chanted slogans- 'Hang the rope of the gallows, all the murderers around their necks'; 'we want hanging, hanging, we want hanging of the murderers'; Abrar's brother's blood, I won't let it go in vain'; My brother is in the grave, why is the murderer outside'; 'July/24's action, direct action'; They kept raising slogans like 'Power or people, people or people'; 'Apocalypse or struggle, struggle struggle'; 'July's tool, let it roar again'.

After the press conference, Abrar Fahad's younger brother Abrar Fayyaz said, "Today, a hearing was going on in the High Court. There, we learned that my brother's murderer Jamie had escaped. The state is responsible for the escape of my brother's murderer. The current government will not be able to avoid this responsibility either. The government's higher-ups knew about it but they hid it. Today, the High Court said that he escaped after August 5. We have not received a clear answer to this. This is a shameful matter for the state."

He said, "No excuse will be accepted. We demand a clear answer from the government and the prison department. We demand that he be arrested again and those involved in the escape be found and brought to justice.

The Prisons Department has explained the escape of the convict sentenced to death in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad.

After Abrar Fahad's younger brother Abrar Fayez informed about this information in a Facebook post on Monday (February 24), the incident was explained in a press release signed by the Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Development) of the Prisons Department Md. Jannat-ul-Farhad late at night.

The press release said that the attention of the prison authorities was drawn to the news regarding the escape of the death row prisoner in the Abrar murder case on Monday.

To clear the confusion in the public mind, the prison authorities said that the prisoner number of the death row prisoner concerned is 5177 / A. Muntasir Al Jemi (26). Jamie, son of Abdul Majid of Kalyan village in Kendua upazila of Netrokona, escaped from the High Security Central Jail Gazipur on August 6 along with 202 prisoners, including 87 death row inmates, by breaking the prison wall. A case was filed with Konabari Police Station on August 15 and all authorities, including law enforcement agencies, were informed.

The news release further said that with the joint efforts of everyone, 51 prisoners, including 35 death row inmates, have already been arrested and sent to prison. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to arrest the prisoners concerned.

The release also said that out of the 22 prisoners sentenced to various terms in prison in the Abrar murder case, 21 prisoners are currently detained in prison.

The mysterious fire has changed the face of Rangamati's Sajek tourism spot. In this situation, the Rangamati district administration authorities have temporarily banned tourists from visiting it.

This decision was announced in a circular signed by Additional District Magistrate Pathan Md. Saiduzzaman of the Rangamati district administration at 11:30 pm on Monday (February 24) on 'Discouraging tourists from visiting Sajek'.

The circular mentioned that due to a terrible fire that broke out in the Sajek tourism area of Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati Hill district, considering the safety of tourists, tourists have been discouraged from visiting the Sajek tourism center from 25/02/2025 until further notice.

Meanwhile, two fire incidents in Sajek within a week have worried the local administration. The Rangamati district administration has formed a 5-member investigation committee to uncover detailed information about the fire incident, focusing on the extensive damage caused by Monday's fire.

An order signed by Rangamati District Magistrate Mohammad Habib Ullah stated that a 5-member investigation committee has been formed with the deputy director of the Rangamati local government as the convener to investigate the incident of the terrible fire that broke out at the Sajek tourist center.

The members of the committee are the assistant superintendent of police of Baghaichhari circle, assistant director of the Rangamati Fire Service, assistant engineer of the Dighinala Upazila Electricity Development Board in charge of Sajek, and the nirbahi officer of Baghaichari Upazila. The committee has been asked to send recommendations within the next 7 working days to uncover the source and cause of the fire and prevent such accidents.

Dhaka: In the context of the increase in incidents of snatching and robbery in various parts of the country including the capital, the activities of the law enforcement forces will be felt from tonight, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Rtd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

He told reporters after the meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Secretariat on Monday (February 24).

The Home Affairs Adviser said, I would say that the law and order situation is satisfactory. However, there is room for improvement. What used to happen earlier, like the Banasree incident, it would take two days to find out, now the incident is known immediately.

He said, small incidents have always happened before, even a day or two ago. However, there have been discussions on what measures can be taken to prevent it from happening again in the future. We do not want such an incident to happen.

When asked what instructions he gave to the law enforcement agencies, the adviser said, "You will see tonight that the activities of the law enforcement agencies have increased a lot."

Addressing the public, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "As an adviser, I held a meeting of the law enforcement committee today to assure them. I have given them a direction that they should start working from the evening onwards. You will feel it from the evening onwards."
