48-hour continuous movement begins from the banks of Teesta today

A large-scale 48-hour continuous program of the Teesta River Protection Movement demanding the implementation of the Teesta Agreement and Master Plan is starting today in five districts of Rangpur division.

This continuous 48-hour program will be observed from noon on Monday (February 17). All preparations have already been made to implement the program, including the construction of a stage on the banks of Teesta. Through this, the people of Teesta will unite and put pressure on the interim government to implement their demands, and the ‘sorrow of Teesta’ will be highlighted in the world.

It is learned that the Teesta River Protection Movement Committee will hold rallies, marches, and cultural performances at 11 points in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Rangpur, and Gaibandha districts bordering the Teesta River. Among them, the program in Rangpur will be held on the banks of Teesta River adjacent to Kaunia Railway Bridge in Rangpur and Gangachara Mahipur Bazar.

To implement the program, 3 big pandals have already been set up in Mohipur on Teesta. The pandals, one for gathering and cultural performances, one for overnight stay and one for preparing and serving food.

Anisul Islam of Lalmonirhat Kaliganj said that all kinds of work including making a pandal for the overnight stay of about 30 to 40 thousand people, making a stage for gathering and entertainment, arranging adequate lights, sewage system, and installing tube wells for pure water have been completed. If the government does not implement the Teesta Agreement and Master Plan through this movement, the program will continue continuously.

Stating that the implementation of the Teesta Agreement and Master Plan is not the responsibility of any individual, group or political party, the Chief Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement Committee and BNP Organizing Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu said that this is a movement of the people of Rangpur division. Since this movement has become a public demand, there is spontaneous participation of the people of Teestapar in it. I hope there will be a huge crowd for the two days. The acting chairman of the BNP will join 11 points in 5 districts virtually on the evening of February 18. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address the Teestapar rally on the 17th. In addition, leaders of various political parties, including BNP central leaders, will come to Teestapar to show solidarity.
