Dhaka: The High Court has dismissed the case against Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on charges of adulteration of Grameen Shakti yogurt.
The High Court bench of Justice KM Hafizul Alam and Justice Md. Atabullah gave the verdict on Monday (March 17) by approving the rule issued to dismiss the case. Lawyer Tanim Hossain Shawon represented Dr. Muhammad Yunus in the court. Deputy Attorney General Taherul Islam Touhid represented the state.
In 2010, the Dhaka City Corporation filed a complaint alleging that a 100-gram yogurt was adulterated from a shop in Bangshal. Later, on January 10, 2011, Dhaka City Corporation Health Inspector Md. Kamrul Hasan filed a case against the shop owner Md. Abul Kashem, the supplier company Md. Tushar, and Dr. Yunus, chairman of Grameen Danone Foods Limited.
Dr. Yunus was granted bail in this case on January 27, 2011. Then he applied to the High Court to dismiss the case. The High Court issued a rule to dismiss the case and ordered a stay. After hearing that rule, the High Court announced the verdict on Monday.
Dr. Yunus' lawyer Tanim Hossain Shaon said that there were some mistakes in the case. Besides, Dr. Yunus was the chairman of the organization. He did not have executive power. Still, he filed the case to harass him. In 2011, he applied to the High Court to dismiss the case. After hearing that application, the High Court issued a rule. At the same time, it ordered a stay. After hearing that rule, it announced the verdict today. In the verdict, it declared the rule appropriate and dismissed the case.
