Metrorail continues to operate despite strike, travel without tickets
The workers have announced a strike after four colleagues of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) were verbally and physically assaulted by MRT police members. However, the metrorail is running normally. Passengers can travel to their destinations without tickets.
The metrorail has been operating since Monday (March 17) morning.
Earlier, a press release sent on Sunday (March 16) night under the banner of 'All officers and employees of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited' highlighted the incident and made 6 demands.
The release said that on March 16 at 5:15 pm, four colleagues of DMTCL were verbally and physically assaulted by MRT police, which is highly condemnable and unacceptable. At approximately 5:15 pm, two women, travelling in civilian clothes without any form of identification, tried to exit the paid zone by using the swing gate located next to the EFO office and tried to exit at the train without a ticket. Since they were not wearing the prescribed uniform and their identity could not be confirmed, the CRA in charge wanted to know the reason for their exiting through the swing gate instead of the PG gate as per the rules.
