ACC raids former DGFI chief's house

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recovered Tk. 2.45 crore from the house of former Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Defense Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Lieutenant General Saiful Alam.

In response to a question from media personnel in front of the ACC head office on Sunday (March 2), the agency's Director General Md. Akhter Hossain (Prevention) gave this information.

He said that an investigation is underway against Lieutenant General Saiful Alam in the ACC. Based on a secret tip-off, the Anti-Corruption Commission conducted a raid on his cantonment house on February 27. During this, Tk. 2.45 crore was recovered from his house. Later, the money was seized in the presence of various intelligence members and joint forces. It was sent to court on Sunday morning.

Earlier, in a notification issued by the Ministry of Defense on September 10 last year, Md. Saiful Alam was sent on compulsory retirement. After the student-public uprising in the country, Lieutenant General Md. Saiful Alam was assigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before that, he was the Commandant of the National Defense College.

He also served as the Quartermaster General of the Army, Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and GOC of the 11th Infantry Division.

Recently, the Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of the Bangladesh Bank froze the bank accounts of Lieutenant General Saiful Alam. At the same time, the accounts in the names of his wife and children and the bank accounts of the businesses owned by them were also frozen.
