Sheikh Hasina turned Bangladesh into a slave of India: Salimullah Khan
Professor Salimullah Khan said, 'One of Sheikh Hasina's crimes is that she has destroyed the heart of Bangladesh. In addition to looting in the power sector, money laundering, lawlessness in the country, disappearances, murder, torture, she also turned Bangladesh into a slave of India in foreign relations. The first thing you have done to get rid of that is to overthrow Sheikh Hasina. The second is to show unity among the people. To resist the incitement that others are now giving to create chaos, political honesty, awareness and political power are needed.'
Author Professor Salimullah Khan said these things at a discussion titled 'Abul Mansur Ahmed's State Thought: The Context of Mass Uprising' organized by State Thought at the Sociology Faculty Auditorium of Chattogram University on Monday (December 2).
The renowned author also said, 'European countries imagine. Sweden is a small country. It has to be constantly on the lookout for Russia. So how do they have self-respect? India helped us in 1971, and on this pretext, they want to keep Bangladesh as their colony. This is the simple Bengali version of it. Did you shed so much blood to become a colony of India to free yourself from the colonial rule of the Pakistanis?
The main discussion was led by thinker, Professor Salimullah Khan, under the chairmanship of R. Razi, adviser to the State Thought of the University and teacher of the Department of Communication and Journalism, and moderated by Tanveen Kayes. CU Vice-Chancellors Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamim Udidan Khan and Dr. Md. Kamal Udidan. Constitutional expert and lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Advocate Arif Khan and convener of the Abul Mansur Ahmed Smriti Parishad, Poet Imran Mahfuz.
A student in the meeting wanted to know his opinion on drawing footprints on the national flags of India, America and Israel. In response, Salimullah Khan said, "Revolt against injustice is justified, Mao Zedong said. One form of rebellion is symbolic. The Supreme Court in America has declared that burning flags is not a crime. People have set fire to flags in America as an expression of protest. That is, flags for the people, not people for the flag. Can we go to America and bomb them as a legitimate protest against the role of Israel and America in Palestine? So what should we do? Don't we have a great scholar's saying, "If you can't, hate even if you feel like it?" The only power we have in protest is the flag." In response to a question about ISKCON, Salimullah Khan said, "Europe and America consider ISKCON to be a peaceful religious organization. But if that organization comes to a small country like Bangladesh and behaves chaotically, then our journalist friend Ashraf Kaiser said, "I don't recognize this Hare Krishna. If the Hindus of Bangladesh think that ISKCON will be their protector, then they are making a big mistake because there were Hindus in Bangladesh besides ISKCON.’
Praising Abul Mansur’s thought, Salimullah Khan said, ‘When the Constitution of Bangladesh was being written, Abul Mansur Ahmed raised many objections. He added them to the version of politics I have seen after fifty years. All of them seem relevant in the period after the mass uprising. Sheikh Mujib called on Abul Mansur to amend the constitution. Abul Mansur also spoke on amendments. However, Sheikh Mujib would make promises, but would not keep them. He also rejected the idea of amending the constitution 100 percent.’
Regarding the constitution, Salimullah Khan said, ‘The constitution of Bangladesh is in a state of ignorance. In which it is said that the source of all power is the people, this is a big lie. That is, we will exercise all power but the source is the people. Here, the people should have been the owners of all power. That is, the people are the holders of all power so that if the government fails to fulfill its duties, there is also an opportunity to remove it.’
Constitutional expert Arif Khan said at the meeting, ‘Abul Mansur Ahmed said in his national thought that everyone should have freedom of religion. Our struggle in ‘71 and ‘24 was against discrimination. Abul Mansur Ahmed has also always worked against discrimination. He is an iconic and important figure in the anti-British movement. This political scientist has always worked to establish Bengali Muslims.’
Chattogram University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Md. Kamal Uddin said, ‘In the major state reform movements in our history, including the anti-British movement, the elite classes did not participate, the masses participated. Even though Abul Mansur was from the elite class, he played a role in these movements.’
Professor Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro- Vice Chancellor (Academic), said, ‘We have not yet been able to open the student residential halls due to the corruption of the previous administration. However, we did not stand still. This administration is working.’
Poet Imran Mahfuz, convener of the Abul Mansur Ahmed Memorial Council, said, ‘Our democracy is failing because our teachers have failed in democracy. Abul Mansur said that a democratic government can move in the right direction if its citizens are vocal. If we are not vocal, then only mass awakening or giving the life of ‘24 Abu Sayeed will not be able to bring about change.’
