Chief Adviser to the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus is holding a meeting with political parties and religious leaders on the overall situation in the country.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam gave this information at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday (December 3) evening.

He said that with the aim of creating national unity, the Chief Adviser will exchange views with political parties on Wednesday (December 4). The next day, he will also exchange views with various religious organizations.

He also said that the Chief Adviser will sit with our student leaders this evening. The Chief Adviser has called for dialogue with everyone. He will sit with them. The purpose of the meeting is national unity. He will call for national unity.

Meanwhile, in the briefing, Shafiqul Alam accused the Indian media of spreading false information about Bangladesh.

He said that many media, especially Indian ones, are spreading misinformation. In this case, national unity is very important. We will place the blame on the Indian media. They are spreading news without verifying it, due to which the Indian people are getting angry. The Indian media is trying to put our nation on the dock.

The Press Secretary said, Professor Yunus had spoken to Narendra Modi at the end of August. At that time, the Chief Adviser had invited the Indian Prime Minister to send a representative and visit. We have been giving various information from our side again and again. They are taking information from their preferred sources. We want to tell everything openly in all cases. But if you close your eyes, ears and nose, you will not know the truth. India is pretending not to hear.

The services of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in North Agartala, in India's northeastern state of Tripura, have been suspended indefinitely.

It said that in the context of the insecurity situation, all types of visa and consular services of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala will be suspended until further instructions.

On Monday, supporters of several organizations, including the Hindutva organization Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, entered the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala and attacked. On this day, several hundred people are protesting near the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Hindu Sangharsh Samiti is an affiliate organization of the VHP.

Energy giant Chevron is planning to invest in new gas exploration activities in Bangladesh in an effort to increase the country’s energy security, senior officials of the US-based company said.

Chevron officials said they were pleased that the interim government has started paying millions of dollars in arrears after the previous Sheikh Hasina government stopped paying the company over the past two years.

On Tuesday (December 3), Chevron officials led by the company’s Vice President Frank Casullo met with the Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, at the state guest house Jamuna.

Casullo said the growing demand for gas due to growing economic activity and business outlook has prompted Chevron to invest in new drilling activities in the northeastern part of the country.

He said, “We will invest in new offshore gas exploration. New gas reserves will boost the country’s economic growth.”

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed Chevron's initiative to explore new gas reserves and said that the interim government plans to increase gas supply to local companies amid increased economic activity.

He added that we are now ready for business. We welcome more foreign direct investment in the country. Major multinational companies have already responded positively.

During the meeting, the Chief Adviser outlined a summary of the reforms that the interim government has taken to ensure a good investment environment in the country.

Professor Yunus praised Chevron's social responsibility activities for the local community.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Adviser's Special Envoy Lutfe Siddiqui. He said that the government is committed to paying Chevron's dues by April next year. Chevron and Petrobangla reached an agreement for six months of debt repayment soon after the interim government took office.

Import and export to Bangladesh through the Zakiganj customs station in Sylhet has been suspended for two days.

Import and export have been suspended due to the obstruction of protesters from an organization called Sanatani Oikya Mancha at the border with India's Sreebhumi (Karimganj). An official at the Zakiganj land customs station said that this situation may remain closed for another day.

Meanwhile, goods were imported and exported through the Sheola land port in Beanibazar, Sylhet on Monday, but it has been closed since Tuesday morning.

It is learned that on Monday (December 2), protesters from an organization called Sanatani Oikya Mancha stopped import and export through the Zakiganj customs station in Sylhet at the border with India's Sreebhumi (Karimganj). About 6 tons of oranges were imported into Bangladesh from India in the morning. Later, the protesters there stopped all types of commercial activities, including import and export.

As a result, the vehicles carrying goods with LCs of Bangladeshi import-export traders were returned from the Sribhumi Customs Station in India. The importers said that the traders have suffered losses due to this.

Jahangir Hossain, Revenue Officer of the Zakiganj Customs Station, confirmed the suspension of import and export.

He said that the protesters there protested at the Sribhumi (Karimganj) Customs Station in India and returned the vehicles carrying goods with LCs of Bangladeshi traders. About 6 tons of oranges were imported to Bangladesh in the morning. No goods have been exported to India through the Zakiganj Customs Station for a long time.

He quoted an Indian exporter as saying that he has learned that imports through this station will continue until Wednesday. We do not have any problems here. This situation may continue until the situation normalizes. However, no official closure of any activities has been announced. If goods are exported from India, we will be able to import.

The Assistant Revenue Officer of Sheola Land Customs Station in Beanibazar told Barta24.com on Tuesday (December 3) afternoon that import and export were carried out through Sheola Land Port on Monday. There has been no import and export since this morning. He could not accurately tell when import and export will resume.
