The Prisons Department has explained the escape of the convict sentenced to death in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad.
After Abrar Fahad's younger brother Abrar Fayez informed about this information in a Facebook post on Monday (February 24), the incident was explained in a press release signed by the Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (Development) of the Prisons Department Md. Jannat-ul-Farhad late at night.
The press release said that the attention of the prison authorities was drawn to the news regarding the escape of the death row prisoner in the Abrar murder case on Monday.
To clear the confusion in the public mind, the prison authorities said that the prisoner number of the death row prisoner concerned is 5177 / A. Muntasir Al Jemi (26). Jamie, son of Abdul Majid of Kalyan village in Kendua upazila of Netrokona, escaped from the High Security Central Jail Gazipur on August 6 along with 202 prisoners, including 87 death row inmates, by breaking the prison wall. A case was filed with Konabari Police Station on August 15 and all authorities, including law enforcement agencies, were informed.
The news release further said that with the joint efforts of everyone, 51 prisoners, including 35 death row inmates, have already been arrested and sent to prison. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to arrest the prisoners concerned.
The release also said that out of the 22 prisoners sentenced to various terms in prison in the Abrar murder case, 21 prisoners are currently detained in prison.
