Dhaka: The price of 12 kg LPG has been reduced by Tk. 28 to Tk. 1,450. On the other hand, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced autogas by Tk. 1.31 per liter to Tk. 66.43.
BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed announced the new price at a press conference on Tuesday (March 3). Members Syeda Sultana Razia, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Md. Abdur Razzak and others were present at the time. The new price will be effective from 6 pm and will remain in effect until further notice.
LP gas prices have decreased due to the decrease in international prices of imported LPG. LP gas prices were adjusted in two phases in January. First, after January 2, the price was increased again to Tk. 1,459 due to the increase in VAT. And in February, it was increased by Tk. 19 to Tk. 1,478.
Although the price of the product fell in the international market in January, BERC initially kept the price unchanged due to the appreciation of the dollar. Compared to December, the average price of propane and butane fell by 13.33 dollars per ton. Accordingly, the price was expected to decrease.
The first price of import-based LPG was announced on April 12, 2021. The order said that the base price would fluctuate if the Saudi price fluctuated. Other commissions would remain unchanged. BERC has been announcing the price of LPG every month since the announcement. However, there are allegations that LP gas is never available in the market at the price determined by BERC.
