The allegations of non-payment of players' remuneration in the current season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) have become stronger. Earlier, some franchises were accused of not paying remuneration on time, but this time the situation has become so serious that foreign cricketers have taken tough decisions like boycotting matches.
The National Sports Council (NSC) has already formed an investigation committee on this issue. On Saturday evening, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud came to the Mirpur Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium to discuss the matter. He held a meeting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) authorities and later faced the media and gave a strong message about paying the outstanding salaries to the players.
The sports adviser said that the salary issue was discussed with the franchise owner of Durbar Rajshahi in particular. He said, 'We spoke to the owner of Rajshahi today. He said that he will clear the payment. If you don't do it later, there will be no chance to talk. We will take legal action.'
Experts believe that such financial irregularities in the country's biggest domestic cricket tournament like the BPL can affect the morale of cricketers. The BCB has already been active in resolving this problem and is pressuring the franchises to pay the players as per the contract. However, the Sports Ministry has warned that strict legal action will be taken if the dues are not paid within the stipulated time.
Also, regarding the match-fixing rumors in the BPL, the Sports Adviser said, 'A fact-finding committee has been formed by the NSC. And based on the allegations of fixing, the BCB will form an independent committee to investigate it. And we will provide whatever cooperation we can from the government to the BCB. We are addressing these undesirable incidents as soon as possible.'
