A year after coming to power in 2009, the High Court ruled to quash 9 corruption cases filed against then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2010. But the ACC did not appeal against those verdicts later. After the political change on August 5, an initiative has been taken to appeal against those High Court verdicts. All the cases are being revived.

A national daily report has learned that an appeal has already been filed in the Khulna barge mounted power plant corruption case. This appeal was filed 5,452 days after the High Court verdict. Along with this, an application has also been made seeking 'pardon for delay' in filing the appeal after a long time.

The appeal case was filed for hearing in the Chamber Judge's Court of the Appellate Division last Tuesday. Later, the court sent the matter to the regular bench of the Appellate Division for hearing on May 18. The bench headed by the Chief Justice will hear the matter on that day. The delayed pardon application states, "Since Sheikh Hasina was the Prime Minister, no one had the courage to take action against her. After the change of power, the ACC decided to appeal."

Lawyer Asif Hasan pleaded for the ACC in the Chamber Court and Advocate Satya Ranjan Mondal is the filing lawyer in the case. ACC sources said that appeals will be filed in stages against the verdicts of the High Court that were quashed and ruled in 2010.

A bench headed by Justice Shamsul Huda had quashed five cases filed against Sheikh Hasina in three months. The cases are the corruption case in the purchase of a frigate (warship), the corruption case in the Meghnaghat power plant, the Niko corruption case, the barge mounted power plant corruption case and the corruption case in the appointment of consultants in BEPZA. At the same time, another bench of the High Court headed by Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik quashed four cases against Sheikh Hasina. The cases are three cases related to the corruption allegations in the Novo theater and a case related to the corruption allegations in the purchase of MIG fighter jets. ACC sources said that initiatives have been taken to activate these 9 cases.
