Dhaka: Mobile phones are being smuggled into prisons using various techniques. Recently, a huge amount of mobile phones, drugs and cash were found in a raid at the Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka.

Inspector General of Prisons Syed Motaher Hossain said this in response to a journalist's question at a press conference held at the prison headquarters in Bakshibazar, Dhaka on Monday (March 10) afternoon.

He said that 275 raids have been conducted in Keraniganj Prison alone in the last 3 months to free the prison from drugs and mobile phones. In these raids, a significant number of small button phones and drugs, along with a large amount of cash, have been recovered from inside the prison.

When asked how many people are currently in the division, he said that 151 people are now receiving division benefits. In addition, there are 24 former ministers, deputy ministers, MPs and government officials who did not get division for various reasons. 30 are receiving the benefits. There are 38 former members of parliament. There are 70 government officials and 13 others.

Recently, a news report was published stating that prisoners are eating home cooked food. He said, "I challenge you to say that no prisoner is eating home food. I can guarantee that inside the prison. But we have no control over them when they are on remand or in court. Then they can do various things."

Asked about the escapees after 5 am, the Inspector General of Prisons said that there are still 700 prisoners on the run. The security forces have not been able to arrest them yet. Out of the 70 escapees, including death row, life sentence and militants, one has been arrested. The remaining 69 are absconding. Of these, 6 are militants and the remaining 63 are death row and life sentence convicts.

The prisons across the country have a capacity of 42,877 prisoners. He also said that there are 70,065 prisoners as of today.

A letter from Jatiya Party Presidium member and former MP from Barishal-3 constituency Golam Kibria Tipu, who is in jail, has been published, in which it is seen that he is naturally in touch with the outside world. When asked about it, he said, "We investigated the matter after it came to our attention. We spoke to him. We have his statement. He came to the court and wrote the note. Later, while going to the prison van, he threw it at someone in some way or the other. Besides, they get the facility of calling through mobile phones every week. They can contact their family or lawyer.

Dhaka: A special law will be enacted very soon to expedite how laundered money can be brought back, said the Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.

He said this at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy auditorium in the capital on Monday (March 10) afternoon.

Meanwhile, Shafiqul Alam said that the interim government was active from the very beginning to recover laundered money. Professor Yunus has been saying from the very beginning that this is the money of the people of Bangladesh. It will be among our top priorities. The focus of the interim government was how to bring back laundered money. For this reason, an 11-member task force was formed last September. It is being led by the Governor of the Central Bank.

Shafiqul Alam also said that a big meeting was held today on how far the efforts to bring back the money have progressed. The meeting was led by the Chief Adviser himself. Many decisions were made in that meeting.

He said that the government and the task force are talking to a lot of law firms. This law will help in making agreements with law firms. We have already talked to 200 law firms. However, no selection has been made yet. The selection will be made through a legal process. We will go into agreements with about 30 law firms. Discussions are also underway on that.

The chief adviser said in the meeting that these are Bangladeshi money; the money can be brought back as soon as possible. There will be a high power meeting on this every month. He has called another meeting after Eid. From now on, meetings will be held every month on this matter, said the press secretary.

এমবিবিএস ডিগ্রি ছাড়া ডাক্তার পদবি ব্যবহার বন্ধসহ পাঁচ দফা দাবিতে কর্মবিরতি ও বিক্ষোভ মিছিলের পাশাপাশি সিলেট এমএজি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের আউটডোরে তালা দিয়েছেন ইন্টার্ন চিকিৎসক ও মেডিকেল কলেজের সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীরা।

সোমবার (১০ মার্চ) সকাল ১১টার দিকে তারা হাসপাতালের আউটডোরে তালা দেন।

এসময় আন্দোলনকারত ইন্টার্ন চিকিৎসক ও শিক্ষার্থী হাসপাতালের বিভিন্ন ওয়ার্ডে গিয়ে মিড লেভেলের চিকিৎসকদের আহ্বান জানান তাদের সঙ্গে একাত্মতা পোষণের জন্য। পূর্বঘোষিত ৫ দফা দাবিতে সকাল থেকেই শুধুমাত্র জরুরী বিভাগ ছাড়া সকল ওয়ার্ডে চিকিৎসা সেবা বন্ধ করে দেয়া হয়।

এতে করে হাসপাতালে সেবা নিতে আসা রোগী ও তাদের স্বজনকে পড়তে হয় চরম ভোগান্তিতে। চিকিৎসকদের আন্দোলনের সাথে একাত্মতা জানিয়ে দুপুরে বিক্ষোভে অংশ নেন হাসপাতালের মিড লেভেলের চিকিৎসকরা।

রোগী ও রোগীর স্বজনরা বলছেন-তাদের দাবি দাওয়া জন্য আমাদের এভাবে ভোগান্তিতে ফেলা ঠিক হচ্ছে না। দুরদুরান্ত চিকিৎসা নিতে এসে চিকিৎসা না নিয়ে ফিরে যেতে হচ্ছে। এমন কর্মসূচিতে মানুষের মৌলিক অধিকার ক্ষুণ্ন হয়। চিকিৎসকদের আন্দোলন যৌক্তিক হলে তা দ্রুত বাস্তবায়ন করার জন্য।

আন্দোলনরত ইন্টার্ন চিকিৎসকরা জানিয়েছেন, ডাক্তার পদবি শুধুমাত্র এমবিবিএস এবং বিডিএস ডিগ্রিধারীদের জন্য সীমিত রাখতে হবে। দেশে প্রচলিত আইন অনুযায়ী এমবিবিএস অথবা বিডিএস ছাড়া কেউ চিকিৎসক পরিচয় দিতে পারবে না। দ্রুত ১০ হাজার চিকিৎসক নিয়োগ এবং বিসিএসের চাকরিতে প্রবেশ বয়সসীমা ৩৪ বছর পর্যন্ত বাড়ানো। মানহীন বেসরকারি মেডিকেল কলেজগুলো বন্ধ করতে হবে। বিএমডিসি অ্যাক্ট-২০১০-কে চ্যালেঞ্জ করে যে রিট করা হয়েছে, যার রায় আগামী ১২ মার্চ হওয়ার কথা তা যাতে বিলম্ব না করা হয়।

সিলেট এমএজি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের ইন্টার্ন চিকিৎসক আদনান মাহমুদ তানিম বলেন, জরুরী বিভাগ, আইসিইউ যেগুলোতে রোগীদের সব সময় নিবিড় পর্যবেক্ষণে রাখতে হয় তাদের চিকিৎসা কিন্তু আমরা বন্ধ করিনি। আমরা চিকিৎসক, আমাদের সেই মানবতা আছে তাদের সেবা দিয়ে যাচ্ছি। আমরা শুধু হাসপাতালের বর্হিবিভাগ বন্ধ করেছি। আমাদের দাবি পূরণ না হলে আগামীতে আরও কঠোর কর্মসূচী দেয়া হবে।

সিলেট এমএজি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের বৈষম্য বিরোধী মিডলেভেল ডর্ক্টস্ এসোসিয়েশনের আহবায়ক ডা.মুহাম্মদ জামিল আহমেদ বলেন, এই দাবির সাথে আমাদের সমর্থন আছে। আশা করবো সরকার এই বিষয়টির সুন্দর সমাধান দেবে।

এ বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে সিলেট এমএজি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের পরিচালক ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল উমর রাশেদ মুনিরের মুঠোফোনে একাধিকবার কল দিলে তিনি কল রিসিভ করেননি।

Dhaka: A fire broke out in the generator room on the ground floor of the four-story building of the Liberation War Museum located in Agargaon in the capital, causing a loss of about Tk. 50 lakh.

The fire broke out around 9 am on Monday (March 10). Talha Bin Zubayer of the Fire Service's media center confirmed the matter at noon.

He said that a fire broke out at the Liberation War Museum in the Agargaon area. Upon receiving the information, two units of Mohammadpur Fire Station worked to control the fire. Later, the fire was brought under control at 9:36 am.

He also said that the fire originated from an electrical fault caused a loss of at least Tk. 50 lakh to the museum.
