The Singra police have put up a banner of a police camp at the house of Junaid Ahmed Palak, former state minister for post, telecommunications and information technology of the fallen Awami League government. After this incident, they have also taken down the banner again. The police claimed that this tactic has been adopted to protect the building from the mob of agitated people.
On Thursday (March 6), a related picture was seen circulating on social media. It has created a discussion in the area.
The circulated picture shows two youths tying a banner rope to the grills of two balconies on the second floor of Junaid Ahmed Palak's three-story house located in Godownpara of Singra municipality in the darkness of night. The banner that was pulled up read 'Temporary Police Camp, Singra Police Station, Natore.'
It is learnt that after 7 pm on Tuesday, two youths put up a banner with the word 'Temporary Police Camp' on the second floor of Palak's house in the presence of some policemen from Singra police station.
After some time, when the incident became known, curious people gathered. Local sources said that it was also removed sometime in the morning of the next day, Wednesday (March 5).
Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asmaul Haque said, after the vandalism of 32, Dhanmondi, we received information that this house (Junaid Ahmed Palak's house) could be demolished at any time with a political tag. That is why we put it up (the banner) so that it can be protected.
When asked about the reason for removing the banner, the OC said, "We only informed that we are here."
When asked about this, Rajshahi Range Additional DIG (Crime Management) Md. Sarwar Jahan told local journalists that there was such a fear. Accordingly, the measures were taken immediately. It was a strategic matter.
It is worth noting that on August 5, when the Sheikh Hasina government fell in a student uprising, incidents of vandalism, looting, and arson occurred in Palak's three-story house in Godownpara, Singra, on the same afternoon. The house has been abandoned since then.
