Dhaka: The UN Secretary-General has said that the UN will stand by Bangladesh in the critical situation it is going through.
He said this to the staff there during his visit to the UN office in Dhaka on Saturday (March 15).
The UN Secretary-General expressed satisfaction with Bangladesh's reform efforts such as protecting democracy and human rights.
Antonio Guterres visited Bangladesh for the second time on Thursday (March 13) afternoon after a long seven years. He was welcomed at the airport by the foreign affairs adviser of the interim government, Touhid Hossain.
On the second day of the visit, on Friday (March 14), Guterres visited the Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar. He participated in Iftar with the Rohingya.
The UN Secretary-General is busy on the third day as well. He visited the UN office in Gulshan. In addition to exchanging views with the officials and employees, he participated in several sessions.
Then, the UN Secretary-General will meet with leaders of several political parties and the National Consensus Commission for Reforms at the Hotel Intercontinental from noon.
In addition, he will also meet with civil society and youth representatives of Bangladesh at the Intercontinental. Then, in the afternoon, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will participate in a joint press conference.
