To implement a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, Hamas must surrender its weapons and leave Gaza, US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said.
He said this in an interview with Fox News on Monday (March 10).
He said that as long as Hamas' military wing continues to exist and poses a threat to Israel, peace cannot be achieved.
He also said that there is no logical and reasonable alternative for them but to leave Gaza. If they leave Gaza, then all possibilities of reaching a peace agreement through negotiations will be created.
It is worth noting that ceasefire talks are underway in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Qatar, Egypt and the United States are acting as mediators to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas. However, the details of the talks are not yet known.
Meanwhile, six Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza on Tuesday, amid talks in Doha, Qatar. Five of them were killed in the Netzarim Corridor area in central Gaza and one in southern Rafah.
