Malaysia has repatriated 278 prisoners, including 23 Bangladeshis, who were detained at various times. The Johor state immigration department said they were sent home after completing their sentences.

In a statement on Sunday (February 9), the state immigration department said that the migrants returned to the country from the Pekan Nenas detention camp in the state after serving their sentences for immigration offences, directly via Kuala Lumpur International Airport KLIA-1 and KLIA Terminal-2, as well as the Stulang Laut Ferry Terminal in Johor Bahru, in the past week.

Among them, there are a total of 278 migrants, including 23 Bangladeshis, 230 Indonesians, 17 Pakistanis, 6 Indians, one Sri Lankan and one Singaporean.

These expatriates were convicted of various offences under the Malaysian Immigration Act and Immigration Regulations 1963 as well as other enforcement agency laws. After their sentences are over and their citizenship is verified by their respective embassies, the migrants are sent back to their home countries by air and land at their own expense. At the same time, they are blacklisted to prevent them from re-entering Malaysia.
