Processions and mass gatherings banned in and around the Secretariat and Shahbagh

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned meetings, rallies, processions and mass gatherings in several areas of the capital, including the Secretariat, the official residence of the Chief Adviser, Jamuna and Shahbagh intersection.

This information was given in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Thursday (March 13). It was stated that the directive will come into effect from today.

The notification states that it is hereby notified for the information of the general public that in the interest of maintaining public order, any kind of meeting, gathering,  procession, etc. has been banned in the Bangladesh Secretariat and the official residence of the Chief Adviser, Jamuna and the surrounding areas (Hotel Intercontinental intersection, Shahbag intersection, Kakrail intersection, Mintu Road) from Thursday, March 13 until further orders, under the powers vested in Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76).
