The interim government has extended the magistracy powers of the officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces for another 60 days.

The Ministry of Public Administration announced this decision in a notification on Thursday (March 13).

The notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Jeti Pru, following the order of the President, states that commissioned officers of the army of captains and above serving in the Bangladesh Armed Forces have been given the powers of special executive magistrates throughout Bangladesh. This power has been given for the next 60 days from March 15, 2025.

It is mentioned that this order, issued in the public interest, will come into effect immediately.

According to the notification, the powers of this executive magistrate have been given under sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133 and 142 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898.

Earlier, on September 17 last year, to control the law and order situation in the country, magisterial powers were given to army officers. A few days later, this power was given to navy and air force officers from September 30.

When the fascist Awami League government fell on August 5 last year in a mass uprising of students and the public, an interim government was formed on August 8 under the leadership of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

But in the changed circumstances, the law and order situation in the country deteriorated drastically. In this situation, the army was deployed with magisterial powers.
